Surface protection technology for neodymium iron boron permanent magnet materials
Permanent magnetic materials are a new type of magnetic material, also known as hard magnetic materials. Unlike soft magnetic materials, permanent magnetic materials can maintain constant magnetism even after being magnetized by an external magnetic field. The third-generation permanent magnet NdFeB has been highly favored by people since its introduction in the 1980s due to its high cost-effectiveness and abundant resource reserves. This material conforms to the development direction of modern science and technology towards integration, lightweight, and intelligence, and effectively promotes the development of modern science and technology and information industry. At present, this material has been widely used in high-tech fields such as computer, network information, aerospace, communication, transportation, home appliances, and healthcare. However, there are still certain drawbacks in the promotion and application of NdFeB permanent magnets, namely the poor corrosion resistance of NdFeB permanent magnets, which is caused by their multiphase structure and chemical properties of each phase. Therefore, solving the anti-corrosion problem of NdFeB has become the focus of current research. The fundamental measure for surface protection of NdFeB is to use a coating layer to block the erosion of oxygen, moisture, or other substances in the air to achieve the purpose of protection. After years of research and development, the surface protection technology of NdFeB permanent magnet materials in China has made great progress, but the anti-corrosion problem of NdFeB permanent magnet materials has not been fundamentally solved. The significant difference in sales of NdFeB permanent magnet products in China is largely due to their inadequate protective coatings. Therefore, solving the surface protection problem of NdFeB materials is the key to expanding their industrial applications. The future research focus on improving the corrosion resistance of NdFeB is to develop new surface coating processes (such as nano modified cathodic electrophoretic coating technology) to enhance the corrosion resistance of NdFeB permanent magnet surfaces without affecting their magnetic properties; Develop pre-treatment processes such as new hole sealing technology; Improve the compatibility of the organic coating and metal coating combination process on the surface of NdFeB magnets, achieving a comprehensive corrosion resistance of both.
